The East Side Freedom Library invites you to a concert and a conversation
Up Through the Concrete
The final concert of Musical Ecology’s 2018 Tour
“Ending the War on Trees”
Sunday, October 21, 2018, 4:00PM
The ensemble Musical Ecology (Todd Harper,
director, composer, piano), Jun Miyake (metal and
bamboo flutes, tenor saxophone), Eric Coursen
(percussion), and Aaron Kerr (cello), will be joined by
special guest Douglas Ewart (multi-instrumentalist and
instrument maker), as they present the closing concert
of their series, exploring the ecology of music and the
music of ecology.
They will be joined by a panel of citizen ecologists ,
including Cecilia Martinez (Center for Energy, Earth,
and Democracy), Melvin Giles (Peacemakers of
Minnesota), and Chelsea DeArmond (MN350) in a
conversation which explores such questions as:
● What are the connections between creative music and ecology?
● In what ways can music be a force for sustainability within activism?
● In these dire times, what can we learn from the resilience of trees which still
sprout in the most unlikely places?
Please join us for this concert and conversation.
